Former Leafs defenseman Mark Giordano, who remains an unrestricted free agent at 41 years old, has now set his sights on being a podcast/radio show guest and providing his insight toward the current NHL situation.

The NHL's all-time shot blocks leader joined TSN's OverDrive to talk about the upcoming challenge that Toronto faces.
He disclosed details about inside the room regarding the personalities of stars like Auston Matthews and William Nylander compared to Mitch Marner:
I'm biased because I played with them, and I think the 1st round exits and the heat that comes down is justified, but I think they do have that desire.

I've been in the room. They have that desire to win. They all look different. Mitchy, he wears it more. But it's like, Matthews is more reserved, Willy is more reserved.

But I go back to different guys that have different attitudes. Mitchy takes heat because he wears his emotions.

But, if you go and watch a 5 year old play, who would you rather have? The kid who floats around and doesn't get pissed off, or the kid who cries when he loses?

The kid who cries when he loses cares more about winning. But it's going to fall on your top players, and I think they can make it happen.
The Leafs have mostly been known as an offensive team that attempts to overcome their issues by simply outscoring the opposition.
But with new head coach Craig Berube in the fold and a new mindset focused more on defense, does Giordano believe that could make a difference for them?
It's hard because you know that you can outscore your problems in a lot of games during the regular season, a lot of times, you play a horrible game and yet still win, you get the result.

I think that hurt them at times in the past, but they're maturing enough, and they have a mature coach who has won before. It might push them to the next level.

It's the change in mentality both behind the bench and on the roster that has given the Maple Leafs their best chance at a deep playoff run since Auston Matthews came aboard, we just have to see how much that desire translates into on-ice production.
Giordano played 1,148 games in the NHL with the Calgary Flames, Seattle Kraken and Maple Leafs during his career; he has 577 points (158G, 419A).
