Maple Leafs veteran Mark Giordano reveals desire to play in the NHL in 2024-2025
After a stellar career spanning over 15 years, many believed Maple Leafs veteran Mark Giordano was done, but now he may have other ideas about his future.
The Toronto Maple Leafs needed depth defensively to compete in the playoffs, and while Mark Giordano was a solid addition for two seasons, his play fell off in a big way this past year.
That factor was due to age and injuries, and after finishing up a two-year extension with the Maple Leafs, many expected him to walk away from the game.
While his future with the Maple Leafs up in the air, the 40-year old former Calgary Flames captain has no desire to hang up his skates for good, as he has revealed a desire to play on into the 2024-25 campaign.
Report: Maple Leafs veteran Mark Giordano intends to play in 2024-25
Even in a season where he was limited to 46 games, the veteran blue liner was able to tally 3 goals and 9 points, and if he can stay healthy, he'd be a fantastic depth signing for just about any team in the league.
On and off the ice, Giordano remains a solid locker room guy and a fantastic leader, and with the Maple Leafs needs on the blue line, they may not rule out re-signing him yet.
Whatever happens going forward, Giordano will go down as one of the most consistent players of this era, and will likely have his jersey retired in Calgary, a sign of respect for the veteran defenseman.
