The Toronto Maple Leafs signed Tinus Luc Koblar to his entry-level deal on Monday as the young prospect's IIHF World Championship production made it inevitable.

Drafted last year (64th overall), Koblar has risen the ranks pretty quickly and helped lead the Norwegian team to their first ever medal in an IIHF-sanctioned tournament earlier this year.

He's got a two-way game that's second to none, and showing a lot of offensive promise at only 18 years old, and the Maple Leafs wanted to reward that.

Maple Leafs sign Tinus Luc Koblar to three-year entry level deal

Seeing how good Koblar has been, he's only going to get better and a year over in Sweden is going to make sure that he has the most preparation possible for when he makes the leap to the NHL, and the Maple Leafs are hoping that's sooner than later:

The team also put out a brief statement on signing their young prospect:

The Toronto Maple Leafs announced today that the hockey club has signed forward Tinus Luc Koblar to a three-year entry-level contract.

Koblar, 18, recorded 14 points (eight goals, six assists) in 47 games with Leksands IF of the Swedish Hockey League (SHL) during the 2025-26 season.

Koblar recorded nine points in 10 games at the World Championships (6 goals, 3 assists) and a plus-9 while outscoring the likes of Matthew Tkachuk and presumed top-three overall pick in the 2026 NHL Draft, Ivar Stenberg.

Koblar is unique in the sense that both his parents are highly esteemed athletes in Norway with his mother representing Slovenia as a biathlete meanwhile his father was an Olympic athlete in 1994. Despite being born in Slovenia, his father's role as coach of the Norwegian alpine skiing team led him to be raised in Norway.

What this signing means for the Maple Leafs pipeline going forward

Now, Koblar isn't going to be putting in an effort to compete with anyone in training camp this year - he's already committed to Rogle HK of the SHL. But that year of experience as a teenager is only going to strengthen his game.

It's not like he's playing against amateurs either, as he'll be up against some of the top names in European hockey and the SHL is no joke as they hold a lot of star players and former elite NHL talent like Nicklas Backstrom, Jakub Vrana, Erik Gustafsson, and Magnus Paajarvi-Svensson.

That level of talent is going to push Koblar to be better, and honestly the fact that he held his own against some of the top NHL names; including his idol Sidney Crosby is nothing short of impressive. He's not here yet, but he's not too far away either.

So Toronto is now going to have Koblar locked up for the foreseeable future and get a chance to see how much potential is hidden inside. It may not mean much immediately but if you give it a year or two, we may be hearing Koblar's name regularly going forward.
