Maple Leafs Scott Laughton Leaves Game With Apparent Injury
Suffering
a tough 4-2 loss to the Ottawa Senators on Saturday night wasn't the only negative as the team lost newcomer Scott Laughton to an injury late in the third period after getting caught with a high-stick.
It turns out that teammate
Oliver Ekman-Larsson's stick was the culprit, and he was unaware of Laughton's position when handling his stick.
Laughton immediately headed to the locker room after being clipped, and while it did happen toward the end of the game, there's no doubt the injury has the potential to be a very serious one.
Losing Laughton just throws the Maple Leafs back to square one, as his arrival was supposed to usher in a new look on the team's third line. It's unknown if he's going to miss time, or how serious the injury is but according to her coach Craig Berube; it's nothing to be concerned with.
Laughton had a fight in the game against
Ridly Greig, while also adding a plus-1 in a fairly solid game for the team before leaving with the injury and managed 12:45 of ice time.
Acquired at the trade deadline for
Nikita Grebenkin and a first round pick, Laughton is expected to help anchor Toronto's 3C role, and has been over the moon in regards to playing for his hometown team.
This season,
Laughton has 27 points in 63 games (11G, 16A) splitting time with the
Philadelphia Flyers and the Maple Leafs. He spent his entire career with the Flyers before being traded at the deadline.
The Oakville, ON native has 265 points in 664 career games (106G, 159A) while adding 1277 hits, 371 blocks, and has won 49.7% of his face-offs in 14:39 TOI.
While it's a good thing that Laughton avoided serious injury, he's going to need to get things going in short order, as the playoffs are quickly upon us, and he needs to get acclimated as soon as possible.
