Maple Leafs Reveal Starting Goaltender for Game 1 vs. the Senators
As the Battle of Ontario kicks off on Sunday as we head into Game One, the Maple Leafs have officially announced their starter.
It's that time ladies and gentlemen! The Stanley Cup Playoffs kick off for the Maple Leafs as
they look to set the tone early against the Senators and use a passionate crowd as a big motivating factor.
While there are still some last minute questions regarding the lineup or who fits in best in a seven game slate, we at least know who the Maple Leafs are gonna be putting in the crease.
It's not unsurprising to see
Anthony Stolarz getting the start after such a fantastic stretch of play which included three shutouts.
Having dealt with a serious injury this season, it's a huge boost to the Maple Leafs that Stolarz is not only healthy, but really, really good.
If you had to ask any fan, they would have probably picked Stolarz over
Joseph Woll, who hasn't been the strongest as of late, but is still a great backup in case Stolarz struggles for any reason.
Signing a two-year deal with the Leafs this past summer,
Stolarz has been not only as advertised, but even better.
Recording a 21-8-4 record with a 2.14 GAA and a .926 SV%, if he hadn't gotten injured in mid-December, he definitely could have thrown his name into the Vezina conversation.
The team also has to make sure they don't start the game off complacent, and if they give Ottawa too many chances early on, it might not matter how good Stolarz has been.
But we won't know exactly how the team feels until they step out on the ice. They look and sound confident, and have the recent results to back that up.
Though this is Toronto; we have to be at least a bit cautious.
