Just moments ago, the Toronto Maple Leafs put Bo Groulx on waivers as John Tavares made his return to practice on Monday morning.

Bo Groulx is a 26-year-old forward who is running out of opportunities with the Maple Leafs organization. He has played in seven games so far this season and has recorded zero points.

According to Elliotte Friedman, the forward was officially placed on waivers. At this time, there is no telling whether or not he will be picked up by another franchise.

Groulx has just 10 points in 85 career games, and it has become clear that, at best, he is a fringe NHL fourth liner. At 26 years old, it is hard to imagine him developing into anything else.

That said, it appears unlikely that he will be picked up by another team. Of course, that could very well change, but at this time, it is hard to see another scenario manifesting itself.

Does this mean John Tavares is returning?

John Tavares was back at Maple Leafs practice this morning. He had missed the last two weeks with a lower-body injury and had been designated as week-to-week.

At this time, it is unclear whether or not Tavares is going to be ready in time to come back and play against the Utah Mammoth on Tuesday night, although it is wishful thinking on the part of Leafs fans.

So far, the Maple Leafs have done well enough without Tavares in the lineup, especially offensively. However, having that leadership in the room will certainly be of great benefit.

The fact that Groulx is being placed on waivers suggests that space is being made on the roster for a forward to return. By process of elimination, that forward is Tavares.

For now, Leafs fans will just have to exercise a bit of patience and wait for an official word to be dished out.

If anything, official word should come in tomorrow ahead of the game, and it will likely come from head coach, Jim Hiller.
