According to sources, the Toronto Maple Leafs leadership group held a meeting ahead of camp featuring several key figures including captain Auston Matthews.

With the 2025-26 NHL season quickly approaching, the Toronto Maple Leafs are gearing up to defend their Atlantic Division title amidst some big changes including the loss of Mitch Marner, and a new focus on adding toughness and grit all throughout the lineup.
The team is motivated to keep the train chugging along, Marner or not, and while they will have their hands full with teams like Florida and Tampa Bay, if they can work collectively and find ways to win; it could lead to a repeat of last season.
The importance of working together is obviously something Craig Berube stresses, but for several of their key figures it rings loud and clear.

Maple Leafs Hold Private Leadership Meeting Ahead Of Crucial 2025-26 Season

Which is why it wasn't too surprising though still intriguing that five Maple Leafs players met with the leadership group in Toronto including Auston Matthews.
The source mentioned that Matthews, William Nylander, Morgan Rielly, Chris Tanev, and Anthony Stolarz were among the players present at the meeting at Kasa Moto; an upscale restaurant in the heart of Toronto.
With training camp only a few days away, it's obvious that the group wants to clear up any potential issues and make sure everyone is on the same page heading into the season.

What the Private Meeting Says About the Leafs' Core Leadership

Though it would be something if everyone had showed up to discuss things, it's clear that the locker room leaders were there to figure out how to best approach the season.
Knowing how important this upcoming season is, having them meet together and with coaches, management and whoever else is involved is crucial for establishing an even deeper connection heading into 2025-26.
Perhaps this was also a way to discuss what the game plan is without Mitch Marner, and how the locker room might be a whole lot different; though that's not meant to be a negative.
However conspicuous by his absence was former captain John Tavares, and while he may not have just been able to make this particular meeting, it is a bit interesting to see him on the outs while Stolarz is part of things as well.
Whatever the true nature of the private pow-wow was, it just means that this Leafs group is trying to become closer in order to finally get past their playoff roadblock.
Or maybe they just wanted to have some really good sushi.
