Maple Leafs Fans Are Divided After Matthews-MacKinnon Debate Goes Viral

Toronto Maple Leafs fans are split after BarDown posted an image of Auston Matthews and Nathan MacKinnon in opposite jerseys and set off a huge debate amongst fans.
There is a potential debate amongst fans now wondering that if Auston Matthews and Nathan MacKinnon were to swap places if that would make any difference, and it's quite the interesting take thanks to this image:
BarDown posted an image on X that showed both men in opposite jerseys and asked the question: Who would win more games?
What Fans Are Saying About the Hypothetical Swap
That sparked fans who came out in droves to give their opinions regarding the swap:
There were some who believed however that Matthews on the Avalanche would have had just a positive impact:
The question was centred around if the Avs or Maple Leafs would be a better regular season team as the obvious answer is, of course MacKinnon when it comes to the postseason.
But some were just horrified at the image in general:
What Nathan MacKinnon Could Bring to Toronto
Well, let's just be frank; he'd bring a lot more playoff production and success. But beyond that, it does give the Maple Leafs less in the way of goal-scoring production but could easily make up for it with just how good MacKinnon is.
He's unbelievable in the clutch, and would have been quite the duo alongside
Mitch Marner, who perhaps would have been given more of a scoring role and could have seen him hit some pretty remarkable milestones much earlier.
He also could bring a winning pedigree unlike any other. His personal accolades speak for themselves, he's a mainstay for Canada in any international competition and his 125 playoff points in 95 games would annihilate any current Leaf output.
There's not enough good to say about MacKinnon and what he could bring to the Maple Leafs, and while it's never going to happen in our lifetime, we have to wonder what if?
What Auston Matthews Could Bring To Colorado
Well, it might have still worked out for the Avalanche, as Matthews would have been able to find chemistry with
Gabriel Landeskog, Rantanen, and
Cale Makar and it would be insane to see what Matthews and Makar could come up with offensively.
The one caveat is his playoff issues, but perhaps being in a smaller spotlight out in Colorado would have changed that perception and he could have had a bit less pressure heading into the postseason.
It's hard to see where Matthews couldn't at least help out the Avalanche in the regular season, but much like the Maple Leafs' woes, Colorado hasn't found much success outside of a surprise 2022 Cup win.
While it's certainly a debate to be had regarding Auston Matthews and Nathan MacKinnon, though there's no denying both players are world-class talents and it's a question that will continue to be asked so long as both men are still skating.
