The Leafs did well enough with a tandem of Ilya Samsonov and Joseph Woll this season. However, Samsonov was highly inconsistent, and that hurt them in the playoffs. Joseph Woll is promising, but he can't stay healthy and still has little experience at the NHL level. As such, it stands to reason that the team should be looking for a new number one this offseason.
Rumors have surrounded the Bruins regarding their goaltenders for a couple of seasons now. It seems pretty clear to most that they have two number 1 goaltenders on their team at the moment in Linus Ullmark and Jeremy Swayman. This seems like a waste considering they can only start one of them every night. As such, teams continue to ask about their availability, and now the Leafs have reportedly joined those teams in asking about Linus Ullmark.
That being said, Ullmark does have a 15-team no-trade list. As such, many of the teams actively pursuing him likely won't be able to land him at all. The Leafs may very well be on that list. Furthermore, Ullmark has repeatedly stated that he wants to stay with the Bruins if possible. He most recently stated this after the team was eliminated by the Florida Panthers.
That being said, it seems like there is a pretty good chance Ullmark will be moved this offseason. The only question is whether or not he will come to the Toronto Maple Leafs.
