Maple Leafs cut Ben Danford, Tinus-Luc Koblar, and 9 others

The Maple Leafs made more roster cuts on Thursday as they assigned prospect Ben Danford and several others to the Marlies, and sent Tinus Luc Koblar back to Sweden.

The roster movement continued for the Toronto Maple Leafs on Thursday, as not only did they waive eight players including Steven Lorentz, but they also cut down their main roster with a flurry of assignments to the Toronto Marlies.

The following players were assigned to the AHL as the Maple Leafs shape their final roster:

- Artur Akhtyamov
- Ken Appleby
- Noah Chadwick
- Ben Danford
- Luke Haymes
- Samuel Hlavaj
- Miroslav Holinka
- Jacob Quillan
- Landon Sim
- Blake Smith

The team also loaned forward prospect Tinus Luc Koblar to Rogle BK of the SHL as he will continue to grow overseas and likely come back for a chance to make the team in 2027-28.

That also leaves the Maple Leafs with 49/50 contracts on their roster, which would give them the freedom to sign PTO invitee Nick Blankenburg to a standard NHL contract.

There are a couple players who have minor NHL experience like Jacob Quillan and Artur Akhtyamov, the majority of players are Marlies staples meanwhile prospects like Chadwick, Holinka, Haymes, and Sim are all going to push for a job down the line.

What this means for the Toronto Maple Leafs

Well it means the Maple Leafs are just one step closer to fielding the roster they are going to carry with them for the 2026-27 season. They basically have their forward group set, and the defensive side is being finalized as the team decides on if Troy Stecher, Emil Andrae or Blankenburg are going to be their sixth defender.

But it also means that we get a much clearer idea of how the entire lineup is going to shape up, and given that there are only four days until the team needs to submit their roster to the NHL, there was little time to have extra evaluations.

The team is dealing with a some injury concerns with Nick Paul, though that is likely to resolve itself come the season opening up, though for now all these moves mean we're just one step closer to Maple Leafs hockey.
