If the Toronto Maple Leafs wanted to add some more support behind Sergei Bobrovsky and Anthony Stolarz, then the latest waiver addition is the answer.

There's been a debate over the Maple Leafs' goaltending situation this season as Sergei Bobrovsky has not lived up to his $21-million contract meanwhile Anthony Stolarz has been lights out but not yet given the chance to start more.

They need a little more insurance behind them though, as Artur Akhtyamov is a player who is being looked at as someone who eventually will step in, but lacks the NHL experience necessary to help even things out right now.

A cheap, NHL-proven goalie would be a great asset for the Maple Leafs - and they may have just found one.

Blackhawks place struggling goaltender Soderblom on waivers amidst roster turnover

On Sunday, the Chicago Blackhawks placed goaltender Arvid Soderblom on waivers as they look to make several roster moves especially after a 9-2 drubbing at the hands of the Carolina Hurricanes.

With a potential turnover on the horizon, the team decided to part ways with Soderblom with the hopes of sending him down.

He's struggled this season, though that can also be a product of a terrible Chicago team. He holds a 0-3-1 record with a 4.67 GAA and .842 SV% but has actually had a couple of solid games this year, just taking the loss due to the weak Blackhawks lineup.

For his career, he holds a 25-68-13 record with a 3.65 GAA and .885 SV%. His numbers aren't exactly the worst when you keep in mind he has been playing for a Blackhawks team who's best finish was 7th (out of eight) since he's come in - he's just been on some seriously bad teams.

What Toronto would want out of Soderblom (it's the bare minimum)

You aren't looking for Soderblom to be this season's version of Matt Murray (though that would be a pleasant surprise) but instead you want to instill someone who can provide NHL experience and let Akhtyamov continue to grow.

He himself is struggling this year and needs more confidence, and throwing him to the wolves isn't a great way to do so.

Putting Soderblom in that position instead not only protects Akhtyamov but also gives Soderblom the first chance of playing on a team that at least has a chance of competing.

When he was actually winning in Sweden and in the AHL he put up fantastic numbers, he just needs the right support.

At only $2.75M and a pending free agent, he would be a goalie who can at least provide some emergency help without needing to risk damaging whatever confidence Akhtyamov has buikt up.

But they'll only have 24 hours if they want to make a move.
