The Toronto Maple Leafs have acquired Kirill Marchenko, Elvis Merzlikins, and Miles Wood, and one of those players might be traded sooner rather than later.

When John Chayka and the Toronto Maple Leafs sent Matthew Knies to the Columbus Blue Jackets for Kirill Marchenko, the NHL was left stunned.

The Leafs also gave the Blue Jackets Steven Lorentz and Emil Andrae, with Wood and Merzlikins coming back the other way.

However, in a new report from Elliotte Friedman, it was revealed that one of those players was almost flipped on the same night as the original trade.

Toronto Maple Leafs want to flip Miles Wood

During his latest "32 Thoughts," Friedman revealed that the Toronto Maple Leafs tried to get Wood on the trading block. In the end, however, nothing materialized, and now, the forward remains on the roster.

I think [the Leafs] were trying to flip Miles Wood that day. I think they were trying to work on trades to see if they could move him elsewhere, but obviously that didn't happen.

It remains to be seen what the Maple Leafs are going to do with Wood, as it is clear that the forward is not someone the Leafs absolutely need right now.

Even with Max Domi and Dakota Joshua injured, it doesn't feel as though Wood is going to be getting into the lineup anytime soon.

The Leafs are coming off a win against the New York Islanders in which they had Bo Groulx in the lineup. Guys like Brandon Duhaime, Teddy Blueger, and Zack MacEwan have also occupied space on the fourth line.

With this kind of depth, Wood is going to struggle to get into the lineup. With that in mind, it should come as no surprise that the Maple Leafs are trying to get a deal done.

This Saturday, the Maple Leafs will be back in action against the Ottawa Senators, and it is then that we will get a sense of whether or not Wood cracks the lineup.
