The Toronto Maple Leafs have had a major rotation of goaltenders over the past few years, and unsurprisingly, many of them have gone onto success on other teams, while some haven't been as lucky.
A former standout goaltender for the Maple Leafs
One player that was liked by a lot of Maple Leafs fans was goaltender Frederik Andersen, who played five years in Toronto posting a 2.79 GAA and a .914 save percentage over that time.
However, he would ultimately leave the team and sign a two-year deal in Carolina as Toronto looked to go with the youth in Ilya Samsonov, but early this season, he got some potentially devastating news.
A huge, positive update on Freddie Andersen
Earlier this season, Andersen was diagnosed with a deep-vein thrombosis and subsequent pulmonary embolisms, with many uncertain if he would return this season.
Now, Insider Chris Johnston has given a major update, revealing that Andersen is almost ready to begin on-ice conditioning to make his way back to the NHL after being out for several months.
Some good news for #canes goaltender Freddie Andersen, who will soon begin limited on-conditioning after being able to get through off-ice workouts without complication.
Andersen was diagnosed with a deep-vein thrombosis and subsequent pulmonary embolisms in November.
Whether Maple Leafs fans still support him from afar or not, this is fantastic news for a very likeable player, and we hope he can get back onto the ice sometime soon, whether or not that is in 2023-24 or beyond.
