According to The Athletic's Pierre LeBrun, the Toronto Maple Leafs approached Frederik Andersen to see whether he was interested in returning to the organisation, and he said yes.

It appears that there is mutual interest, and a deal could be in the works.
Last season, Andersen struggled with injuries and lost his starting job to Jack Campbell. Campbell then went on a historic run, and Andersen was never able to return to the starting lineup.

It was claimed that he's fine with'sharing' the crease as a 1-B type, as the former all-star has demonstrated he has what it takes to be a great goaltender in the NHL for extended periods of time. Andersen's results were not in his favour last season, as he finished with a 2.96 GAA and a.895 save percentage.

The 31-year-old is coming off a season in which he earned $5 million, arguably one of the greatest goaltender contracts in recent memory. In previous years, he had clearly outplayed his contract, but Andersen's 'contract year' did not go as anticipated. To stay with the Maple Leafs, he'll have to take a price reduction, so expect a two-year deal at around $6.5 million.
