Auston Matthews showed no remorse to the Ottawa Senators or their equipment in Game One as video shows him destroying some opposing lumber.
The heart and soul of the Maple Leafs has always been one of class, honour and leadership. But sometimes, frustrations boil over. Nobody is perfect, and there are times when even the calmest players tend to lash out.
Case in point, Game One of the Battle of Ontario where we saw a 52 minute write-up for penalties when all is said and done, including a last-minute fracas involving what felt like half of each team's rosters.
So it's not too surprising that Auston Matthews was feeling some of that frustration during Game One when he snapped Ridly Greig's stick after it got knocked into the bench.
It was a bit of revenge for Greig's actions in their previous contest where he ended up taking out not only Anthony Stolarz on a breakaway attempt.
That was after he tried to knock off John Tavares' head earlier on in the game which not only malicious, but egregious not only in action, but with consequences as Greig did not receive any supplemental discipline and only a two-minute minor for the crosscheck.
Greig's had a target on his back since the end of Game One, and with Matthew Knies basically calling him out after the game, there's no reason to believe that Matthews' outburst on the lumber was going to be the only thing that happens involving Greig.
While so far, nothing too serious has happened involving Greig in Game Two, he already seemingly got involved with defenseman Oliver Ekman-Larsson, and was also recently coined 'Public Enemy #1' in Toronto, and probably for good reason.
Don't expect Matthews and company to let Greig off the hook at any point, and if he keeps playing the way he has been (basically Ottawa's Brad Marchand) then not only is he going to get his comeuppance, but ensure that he's going to have his life made miserable for at least the rest of the series, if not for the rest of his career.
