Leafs Head Coach Craig Berube Blasts His Team During Practice
Maple Leafs head coach Craig Berube was unimpressed with his team's performance not only against Nashville, but during practice on Monday as well.
Though we don't know anything that was said post-game in the locker room, Berube's intensity stretched into practice on Monday as the head coach abruptly dropped a drill to lay in some colorful motivation to his players.
Craig Berube's Furious With Toronto's Lack Of Awareness
Whether it was a repeated lack of effort, or Berube didn't think his players were listening hard enough, the fact he dropped everything to essentially say 'What is wrong with you guys?' is not a good look.
We have a dozen games before the playoffs and if the team is showing this type of attitude in practice and against weaker teams,
they don't have a prayer against Florida, Tampa Bay, and the like.
Perhaps he took a page out of former head coach Sheldon Keefe's playbook after he stormed off after one question at a press conference during the weekend.
To be completely honest, Berube has a fair point to be upset at his team. Currently mired in a tough divisional title race with Florida, giving up five goals to the worst scoring team in the league, and two shorthanded nonetheless; the team needs a turnaround quick.
The team has a chance to turn things around in a big way against Philadelphia, San Jose, and Anaheim. Although they also play the Kings as well before April, that will no doubt be a tougher game, though nothing is for granted.
If Toronto can take three or even the four games they have in March, it sets them up nicely for a tough April coming up. But if they falter again, don't expect Berube to let up on any of the language or putting his team on blast anytime soon.
