Toronto Maple Leafs fans are not impressed with EA Sports and their decision to have former star Mitch Marner score on the team during the NHL 26 gameplay trailer.

It's the time of year when EA Sports decides to hype up their upcoming NHL video game, as they try to entice fans to purchase a new game with the hopes that things are going to be a bit different this time round.

What the NHL 26 Trailer Showed

On Wednesday they revealed their gameplay trailer, and the heavy focus was obviously on the Tkachuk family, as Matthew adorns the regular cover meanwhile his brother Brady and father Keith join him on the cover of the deluxe edition.
But eagle-eyed fans noticed that EA Sports decided to throw some shade at the Maple Leafs in the gameplay trailer, as it showed a three second clip of Mitch Marner in Vegas gold, scoring on former teammate Joseph Woll.
Marner took the puck and tried a nifty backhand past Joseph Woll, and showed off his signature white gloves that he will use in Vegas.
Even TheScore was a bit take aback by the shade too.

Why Leafs Fans Are Upset

Hilariously, fans were poking fun at Marner for presumably missing the net, and that it must have been a playoff game.
Screenshots show that perhaps Marner did indeed put the puck wide, in which case kudos to EA Sports for giving the Leafs fans something to smile about.
But it is a bit unfortunate with the timing, though you can't really blame EA for putting Marner in to showcase him in new threads; he is a top player after all.
It's a slap in the face for Leafs fans who had years of clamoring for Marner to do something and while a lot of them are happy he moved on, his absence is still a huge loss to the team nonetheless.
There's also the general sentiment that fans are just more upset that EA took the time to showcase this as opposed to working on a game that will be actually playable and not a cash grab.
Marner is certainly going to look different, both in the game and in real life when he skates for Vegas for the first time.
Though Leafs fans will have their chance to enact some revenge this fall; at least digitally.
