Toronto Maple Leafs fans are outraged at their team for failing to protect Anthony Stolarz and are taking their opinions to social media to vent their frustrations.
Anthony Stolarz Gets Knocked Over in Front of the Net, No Reaction From Teammates
The goalie was clearly frustrated on and off the ice, and wasn't shy about letting his team know they need to do better in protecting him because otherwise, things could get much worse.
It wasn't just the fact that he was charged by Marchment, but the fact that his own defenseman
Brandon Carlo ended up shoving
Jaden Schwartz into him as the Kraken scored.
Then after the Marchment incident, Carlo took his time in enacting some revenge, and this didn't sit well with some.
Fans Question the Maple Leafs' Team Toughness
The Maple Leaf fans weren't shy in venting their frustrations about their lack of aggression and Carlo's effort - not holding back:
This team should be embarrassed that their toughest (mentally and otherwise) player is their effin' goalie the league knows all too well how soft this teams' identity is no matter who comes in It's gonna take months of chaos to change even a little. Tough to watch - @philhabib13
The general sentiment online is that the Maple Leafs, for all their talk about getting tougher and harder to play against, are putting in some of the more lackadaisical and "softer" efforts compared to last year.
Carlo has been struggling heavily alongside
Morgan Rielly, who thankfully has picked up his offense, but his partner needs to cover for him. Carlo was caught trying to block a clearing attempt, and half heartedly crouched to block it.
It fumbled past him and lead to a breakaway which thankfully
Oliver Ekman-Larsson who had just changed, helped stop.
Carlo himself mentioned that he didn't want to get a penalty or retaliate, but when someone barrels into your goalie; take your two minutes and protect him.
Whatever the reasoning Carlo had, it wasn't good enough for Stolarz nor the Maple Leafs fans who expected a lot of toughness from their team this year but are having reservations about when they are actually going to get it.
