After poaching Jason Spezza and bringing him to Pittsburgh, the addition of Wes Clark, and now it looks like he may have had a hand in the departure of another scout.
The departure of Clark seemed to hit hard for the Maple Leafs; especially prospect Easton Cowan who had a close relationship with Clark.
Now, it seems like another body has departed from the Maple Leafs scouting team as Around The Horn Hockey announced on X today that the Maple Leafs and Carneiro parted ways.
Carneiro joined the Maple Leafs in 2018; coming over when Kyle Dubas was hired on as the GM. The two had previously worked together with the Soo Greyhounds of the OHL for several years before coming to Toronto.
He worked for several seasons with Dubas while both were with the Soo Greyhounds, and it seems the two are intrinsically linked. His insight into scouting is one of great detail as explained in an interview with the National Post back in 2016 when he was with the Greyhounds.
It seems like Kyle Dubas still stays loyal to those who have brought him to the show in the first place; however it hasn't led him to much playoff success so far. It's great to have friends but this is a business and a business built on winning. If the results don't come for Kyle; is he going to pack up and move his team somewhere else in the hopes of glory, or will he stay put and try to salvage something out of nothing?
