Toronto Maple Leafs defenseman Jake McCabe left Saturday's game early after he took a slapshot to the face, just under his eye. Today he addressed the injury with the media, revealing how lucky he is it wasn't worse.
The blueliner has proved to be a warrior this season, consistently putting his body on the line in an effort to help the team win. Saturday's matchup against the Red Wings was just the latest example of that. He is absolutely fearless when it comes to blocking shots.
Today he noted how this particular injury was scary, due to the puck hitting him so close to his left eye. Luckily, he revealed that all he needed was a few stitches and everything else is fine.
McCabe has regularly been seen with stiches and other bandages on his face throughout this season as he has played his role quite well. This is exactly the kind of toughness the team will need in the playoffs, so hopefully he will continue to be a bright spot on a battered Leafs blueline.
