The Toronto Maple Leafs have been rumored to be changing up their team ever since they lost to the Boston Bruins in the Stanley Cup Playoffs. One of the changes expected is a potential trade involving forward Mitch Marner.
This has led to a ton of speculation regarding what a potential move involving Mitch Marner could look like. Today a different conversation has begun about what the Maple Leafs could do with the salary cap space they create.
A new report discussing the Mitch Marner saga has created a different potential outcome. If the Maple Leafs trade Mitch Marner away Frank Seravalli has sources that believe they'd use the salary cap space to try and sign Jake Guentzel.
Subtracting Mitch Marner and adding Jake Guentzel would allow the Maple Leafs to have a guaranteed top-six winger who has playoff pedigree in the lineup for next season. Then with the Mitch Marner trade the team could focus on getting the best deal whether it brings back future or current assets is less important if they land Jake Guentzel.
While all of these reports are in their infancy as far as actual moves being made usually when there's smoke there's fire. With a Mitch Marner trade all but guaranteed at this point look for the Maple Leafs to try and make the deal before free agency happens if they want in on Jake Guentzel.
