Is That Mitch Marner 2.0? Hockey Fans React to Viral New Leafs Signing

News broke on Tuesday that the Toronto Maple Leafs had re-signed RFA William Villeneuve to a one-year, two-way contract and bringing him back to hopefully help the Marlies fight for the Calder Cup, and could earn a call up at some point to the big leagues.

There's a good amount of potential surrounding Villeneuve for his two-way play and the fact that he's almost ready to make the leap to the NHL.

But there's also something getting fans attention and it has to do with his glaringly similar appearance to former star forward Mitch Marner.

It was a great bit of fun and showed that Marner may have a doppelgänger in the league and didn't even realize he was in the same system.

If Villeneuve can bring even a portion of the offense that Marner brought then his future is going to be a long and prosperous one.

He's going to find his way into the lineup sooner rather than later, and there's a chance he could replace someone like Simon Benoit or Oliver Ekman-Larsson if the team decides to move on.

He had a solid season with the Marlies last year, with 40 points (4 goals, 36 assists) and has 90 points (9 goals, 81 assists) over his four seasons with the team.

Villeneuve may also be a very solid trade piece for the team, as a team like the Penguins could use him as they look to tank this year.

But for now, it looks like Villeneuve gets to moonlight as Mitch Marner, at least for a little bit.

Now let's just hope he can bring the magic as well.
