In a recent report from Elliotte Friedman, former Toronto Maple Leafs general manager Brad Treliving was roasted for some of his worst decisions.

There is a reason why Brad Treliving is no longer the general manager of the Toronto Maple Leafs. He made a ton of bad decisions, and they have left the Leafs with a lot of problems.

For instance, back in 2025, he traded prospect Fraser Minten to the Boston Bruins alongside a first-round pick for Brandon Carlo. Carlo is no longer on the Leafs. Meanwhile, Minten is now a second-line center in Boston and continues to thrive.

During a recent "32 Thoughts," Elliotte Friedman couldn't help but point out this bit of incompetence from Treliving. He noted how for the longest time, people within the organization saw Minten as nothing more than a third-line center.

I remember with Minten like there were people in and around Toronto who were like, I don't know if it'll ever be more than a third liner.

Friedman very rarely criticizes other teams. Instead, he simply reports the facts and provides insider information on the goings-on of the NHL and its teams.

However, the Maple Leafs made such a bad move here with Minten, that he couldn't help but point out just how bad it looks for the Leafs franchise.

A new regime is trying to make it right

Now that John Chayka is the general manager, it appears as though things are tightening up. The bottom-six has been fixed, Kirill Marchenko has been acquired, and the team is working on getting itself a defenseman.

Good moves are being made. While the results on the ice may take some time, it is clear that the Leafs do, indeed, have a general manager who at least cares.

Ultimately, the Maple Leafs are retooling, and that is not going to happen instantaneously. It is going to take some time for this team to really rally behind the new pieces and get things on the steady track.

Overall, the Treliving regime is now a thing of the past, and fans are hoping for things to change, slowly but surely. So far, it's on the right track.
