Ideal Trade Scenario Emerges Between Dallas Stars and Toronto Maple Leafs

There could be a trade that benefits both the Dallas Stars and Toronto Maple Leafs as both teams look to make changes this summer.
While fans of both teams can be proud of their accomplishments, they still fell short of their overall goal of a championship, and there are going to be some changes in the coming months.
Dallas And Toronto Could Work Together To Better Each Other
So it could benefit both Jim Nill and Brad Treliving to work together and potentially find a way to both add scoring (Treliving) and dump some much needed cap (Nill).
It wouldn't cost much, considering that Marchment isn't too expensive and it might give Toronto a chance to move on from polarizing forward Nick Robertson.
Exchanging his signing rights and giving him a chance to play with his brother in Dallas would not only give Toronto a change of scenery, but the one Robertson desperately needs.
Toronto might also be able to dump off a contract like Calle Janrkrok in the deal; he's going to be an extremely cheap option for Nill to put in his bottom-six while hoping Robertson can replace Marchment's production.
Often a healthy scratch this season,
Robertson (TOR) played in 69 games, scoring 22 points (15G, 7A) but never really gelled with Craig Berube's system, and was often thrown about in trade rumors all year.
Jarnkrok was marred by injuries this season, only playing in 19 games, he registered 7 points (1G, 6A).
What Would A Mason Marchment Trade Look Like?
Marchment would make his return to the Maple Leafs, where he played in 2019 briefly before being traded.
He emerged as a solid offensive option though, and he had 47 points in 62 games (22G, 25A) while helping Dallas earn back to back Conference Finals berths.
So with that in mind, here's how things could look if both sides wanted to make a deal work:
Robertson gets to sign for a team that will give him more of a chance, and gets to play with his brother. Jarnkrok gets a chance to redeem himself with much less pressure, and the 5th rounder is just there to sweeten things a bit.
Marchment comes in and automatically slots into either the wing on the second or third line. If Toronto re-signs
John Tavares, they could put them and
William Nylander together and create a solid well-balanced trio.
Marchment - Tavares - Nylander
Or he could find himself on the third pairing with assumed 3C
Scott Laughton, and if Toronto was still a bit concerned on
Bobby McMann's placement in the lineup, could offer an energetic and offensive third grouping as well.

It would be a $4.5M investment for Brad Treliving for one season, and with the bevy of free agents in 2026, getting essentially a rental for dirt cheap with his potential could be considered a steal.
It won't necessarily be easy, and perhaps Nill is a bit concerned about bringing in Robertson knowing how hot and cold he can be.
But much like Toronto did with the Nylander Brothers, Dallas could make a great story that grips fans and creates something special in the Lone Star State.
All it's gonna cost is Mason Marchment.
