Mitch Marner is currently the number one player on the trade market and for good reason as the Leafs winger is a perennial 90+ point player. After a lackluster playoffs, Marner has reportedly hit the trade market and is expected to fetch a haul for the Toronto Maple leafs.
Recently NHL insider Frank Seravalli proposed a mock trade between the Leafs and Blackhawks that sees the Maple Leafs fetch a top-pairing defenseman in Seth Jone.
Jones does have quite a pricy contract as he makes $9.5 million for six more years and frankly has not been playing like his price tag but is still a good defenseman nonetheless. Seravalli expanded on the contract saying that if the Leafs do make the move for Jones, they would be saving money as Marner is more expensive.
The Blackhawks would be getting a bonafide star in Marner to play alongside Connor Bedard moving forward as Bedard performed well despite playing with subpar linemates all year.
We will wait and see what happens this offseason and if GM Brad Treliving decides to target a player that is a similar caliber to Marner or if he will look for a package based more around future assets.
