Former Toronto Maple Leafs Goaltender Claimed By Divisional Rival
It didn't take long for former Maple Leafs goaltender James Reimer to be claimed off waivers as he heads back to the Buffalo Sabres on Wednesday.
James Reimer has become a journeyman goaltender through his career and has made a name for himself as a reliable backup who can help any team in a pinch, and provide veteran advice and leadership to their young netminders.
James Reimer: Unsung Hero
There has to be something said about a goaltender who has made a name for himself just purely by being reliable. Reimer started hot in Toronto before settling down into the goaltender you see today, a poised veteran who can bring stability to any net.
For his career, he has a 215-179-63 record, very solid numbers for a goalie who was on a lot of struggling teams, especially the early 2010s Maple Leafs. After leaving Toronto, he made stops in San Jose (twice), Florida, Carolina, Detroit, and Anaheim before being claimed by Buffalo.
It's the second time he's back with the Sabres, as he signed as a free agent in the summer but was waived and picked up by Anaheim.
This season he is 0-2-0 with a 4.50 GAA and .864 SV%, not great numbers but he hasn't played much and could give Buffalo a veteran boost if their goalies need rest.
James Reimer has been an unsung hero for the teams he played for in his career, giving it his full effort no matter the situation. He's carved out a great NHL portfolio, and his consistent sticking around the league shows the respect teams have for him. He was never the biggest name or won the awards.
But he won the hearts of fans and teammates everywhere. A very sweet consolation prize.
