Former Sportsnet analyst finds new home after Rogers firing

Former Sportsnet hockey analyst Jennifer Botterill has a new home with the NHL on TNT after she was fired by Rogers after their broadcasting overhaul.

Rogers Sportsnet made some serious changes this past summer with an overhauled panel that is going to have familiar faces, but also leave out some important names too. Long-time analyst Kelly Hrudey's contract was not renewed, and former Olympian Jennifer Botterill was not brought back for the 2026-27 season.

While Hrudey has revealed he does have something in the works for the future, Botterill hadn't announced any new position; at least until recently.

Jennifer Botterill heads to TNT after Rogers let her go

Speaking with The Globe and Mail's Rachel Brady, Botterill revealed she's going to be headed to the U.S. as part of the NHL on TNT broadcasting team:

Botterill returns to NHL on TNT, where she has previously done studio and in-game work. The U.S. broadcaster expects to announce its plans this week, but Botterill said she'll mainly be in the booth beside the play-by-play talent, doing in-game analysis.

Botterill gave her thoughts on the situation in an interview with the news outlet prior to the release of her book 'Why Not You: My Story of Perseverance, Hockey, and Olympic Gold':

I really enjoyed the seasons with the Rogers and Sportsnet team, especially in terms of colleagues and lifelong friendships. I am also very excited I have another opportunity.

Botterill, the sister of Seattle Kraken GM Jason Botterill, has been a media personality since the 2014 Sochi Olympics, translating that into a consistent job with Sportsnet.

Botterill brought a unique perspective no one else could

Despite the fact that she may have irked some fans with her opinions, she never swayed from her moral compass and would often have to agree to disagree with her fellow panelists. A three-time Olympic gold medalist, Botterill is no stranger to the game and her opinion was a valuable asset to the panel.

While she never played in the NHL, she does have extensive experience at the international level, and there is something to be said about a player who wins a combined four Olympic medals, five IIHF World Championships and is unofficially the greatest scorer in NCAA history giving a perspective only she can offer.

The NHL on TNT is going to have a great asset to the panel during the 2026-27 season, and it will be great for American fans to get the unique opinions and ideas that only Botterill can bring.
