The Toronto Maple Leafs could have added the brother of one of their rival's top players to create even more history, but lost out to another Canadian squad.

Lane Hutson has been an absolute phenom for the Montreal Canadiens. In his first full season with the team, he's not only helped lead Montreal to a potential playoff spot, but has firmly solidified himself as a Calder Trophy candidate and looks like a star for years to come.
Brother Cole was drafted last year by the Washington Capitals, and while we haven't seen much of him just yet, if he's as any good as his brother, then the Caps will be in good hands for years to come as well.
But there is another Hutson brother waiting in the wings for his shot at success. Quinn Hutson, the eldest of the three Hutson brothers hasn't yet really had a shot yet to really show what he can do after a solid career at Boston University.
He has had some sporadic chances and did end up appearing for the Toronto Maple Leafs' development camp last summer however never ended up signing a deal.
Now that decision may have bit the Maple Leafs in the behind, as it was announced that Hutson would be signing a deal with another Canadian team instead; the Edmonton Oilers.
Hutson played in the Frozen Four Championship game however his Boston University Terriers fell to the Western Michigan Broncos 6-2, and ending his season on a bit of a dour note.
It wasn't for a lack of effort however, as Hutson put up 50 points in 37 games with the Terriers (23G, 27A). In 117 games with the team, he posted 114 points (56G, 58A) and an astounding plus-44 rating over that span.
Edmonton will get the reap the benefits right away as he will bypass the Bakersfield Condors and end up reporting directly to the Oilers. That will however burn off a year of his contract and he will become a restricted free agent after the 2025-26 season.
Which is unfortunate news for the Maple Leafs, because they had a shot at bringing him in and potentially creating another historic footnote in the Leafs/Canadiens rivalry.
But they couldn't put pen to paper, and now Edmonton will get to see if the oldest Hutson brother is much like his siblings and not just a flash in the pan.
