The Toronto Maple Leafs were thrilled to land Mark Giordano several years ago, and after taking a home-town discount to stay with the team, he became a fan favourite during his tenure. Unfortunately, 2023/24 was an injury riddled campaign for Giordano in Toronto, resulting in just 46 games played, and over that time, the veteran accounted for just three goals and 9 points.
Now, the former Flames and Kraken defenseman will be 41-years of age when the 2024/25 campaign begins, and while most had the expectation that he would hang up the skates for good, he has remained adamant that he will continue his career in the NHL.
After months of waiting, his agent officially confirmed interest in Gio, with four teams officially linked to him, with one of those being the Maple Leafs, who could use a solid veteran in the 7th defenseman role.
Another one of those teams is a rival of the Maple Leafs, with the young Buffalo Sabres, whose top-four blue liners average age is just 22, expressing interest in the 1,100 game veteran.
It's unclear yet what way Giordano is leaning, but at 41-years of age, he doesn't have much time left to achieve his goal of winning the Stanley Cup, and with the Edmonton Oilers also showing interest, it's safe to say that he's got a big decision to make.
