Former Toronto Maple Leafs forward Joey Anderson has found himself on the waiver wire as the Chicago Blackhawks have decided to cut ties with him for now.

The regular season brings with it a slew of changes daily, whether it be due to injuries, struggles, personal matters or any combination of the three. However one of the biggest that often goes under the radar is the waiver wire.
A great way for teams to cut ties with some expensive pieces and potentially hope that another team is interested, the 2PM deadline brings with it a bunch of anticipation as we wonder who exactly is going to be on the wire this time.

Former Leaf Anderson Hits Waiver Wire

Well we only have one today and it's a former Toronto Maple Leaf.
According to Elliotte Friedman, Chicago has placed forward Joey Anderson on waivers, giving teams 24 hours to claim him before he clears and the Blackhawks can assign him to the AHL.
Anderson, 27, hasn't appeared for the Blackhawks this season and only skated in 18 games last year, registering one assist. Since being drafted 73rd overall in 2016, he has 40 points in 169 games.

Joey Anderson: Who Is He?

Anderson has spent time with New Jersey, Toronto, and Chicago. His time with the Maple Leafs ran from 2020-2023 when he was dealt to the Blackhawks in the Jake McCabe trade.
In 20 games with the Maple Leafs, he had three points (2 goals, 1 assist) with 20 hits and it's safe to say that Toronto won the McCabe deal with Chicago as he has emerged as a true Top-4 shutdown defender.
Anderson has had much more success at the AHL level, with 166 points in 212 games (88 goals, 78 assists) with Binghamton, Toronto, and Rockford; his best season same in 2021-22 with the Marlies.
It's unclear if Anderson has any interest from teams around the league, though they will be able to claim him if they are interested, but with a lack of playing time recently and some pretty stacked rosters it's hard to see where he fits in.
