Maple Leafs prospect Easton Cowan's comments after his Memorial Cup win is going to make coach Craig Berube even more excited to coach him.

Capping off a wonderful junior career with a Memorial Cup victory, Easton Cowan left his mark as not only one of the greatest London Knights players of all-time, but managed to share some history with former Knight and Maple Leafs forward (for now) Mitch Marner.

But his comments about how the team was able to come away with the 4-1 victory should bring a smile to not only fans' ears, but his future head coach Craig Berube:
Defense leads to offence here and we gotta keep that going. - Easton Cowan
That's gotta be music to Berube's ears, as the no-nonsense head coach is going to make sure that Cowan is both a star on offense and defense.
The fact that the Memorial Cup MVP is willing to put his body on the line regardless of his star power shows he's exactly the type of player the Maple Leafs need to transition over from Mitch Marner.
Speaking of, Cowan and Marner share some history as both men won the Memorial Cup MVP, both are Maple Leafs draft picks, and both are some of the greatest players in London Knights history.
Cowan had 218 points over the last three seasons with the Knights (83G, 135A), winning both OHL and Memorial Cup MVP, as well as OHL Playoff MVP and has nothing left to prove in junior hockey.
But what does this mean for Cowan going forward?

Easton Cowan's next stop: Toronto

Whether that Toronto involves the Maple Leafs or Marlies is yet to be determined, but if he keeps the current pace he's on and puts in a strong performance during training camp, he could definitely earn a spot.
The team isn't shy about debuting young players and prospects, as we saw the likes of Fraser Minten, Nikita Grebenkin, and Jacob Quillan all make their NHL debuts this season.
Cowan offers a lot more than them in terms of offense, and while his defense isn't the focal point of his game, it's more than serviceable and he always has an active stick.
Working with Berube and the Player Development Staff (such as Jake Muzzin), Cowan can improve on his defensive game even more and become an elite two-way player much like Marner.
There's no guarantees that he will make the team out of camp, and it does also depend on Brad Treliving and who he decides to bring in or ship out this summer.
But things are looking extremely bright for Easton Cowan, and has to potential to make Maple Leafs fans forget about Mitch Marner in due time.
