Craig Berube's Powerful Post-Game Speech After Eliminating the Senators Goes Viral
Craig Berube's message for the locker room after securing the series against the Senators was one of pride, inspiration, and gives fans hope this could be the year.
It was hard, it was gritty, and wasn't the cleanest finish to a series that started 3-0 in their favor, but the Maple Leafs pulled it out and got the win against Ottawa on the road, backed by
the heroics of
Max Pacioretty, who scored one of the biggest goals of the entire series.
It was all celebrations afterward, and while there's no champagne baths just yet, there's certainly a lot of happiness (and relief) for both the team and their fans.
Craig Berube's Viral Post-Game Speech Sparks Hope
Post-game, we got to see how the locker room felt after the victory, and Craig Berube had some powerful and inspiring words for the boys:
Laughts [
Scott Laughton], that's a block! That's how you win it. That's what it takes to f****** win man. In this league, the playoffs, laying it all on the line.
Hell of a game by you guys, you were aggressive, you were all over them. We're moving on, great job by you guys.
He also explained that the team can't take any games for granted, and have to treat each one like it's their last:
We can't think any series will be short. They'll all possibly go to seven games. That's how you got to look at it every series. We did it here too; we battled and competed and got it done.
Scott Laughton got a lot of praise after, and for good reason. He prevented a very dangerous offensive onslaught from the Senators and took a puck to the chest but managed to get the block to careen straight to
William Nylander, who took the puck down the ice for an empty net goal.
Another angle shows that Laughton took the shot almost below the belt, and showing the passion and grit and recklessness that not only Craig Berube, but fans appreciate and respect.
Receiving the game puck afterwards, Laughton deposited it into the fourth slot, signaling the first part of their journey has ended.
But it is going to be tough heading into a series against the reigning champs.
They are at full strength, and Toronto goes from one pesky Tkachuk brother to another, plus they have
Brad Marchand, so it's got the potential to turn very frustrating, very quickly.
Whatever happens, the Maple Leafs can at least say they were able to find some success this season after winning the division.
The true test lies ahead of them, and will be a good indicator if Toronto are destined to become champions or failures this season.
