Brad Treliving's feelings towards his team's offseason isn't exactly rainbows and sunshine according to Frank Seravalli, as the Maple Leafs try to see how to improve.
Though the team still has a potential move or two to complete before the season opens up, there's no doubt the team changed their identity; a main goal this summer.

But, the team does need just a bit more help, and while they missed out on several names either due to re-signings, trades, or being picked up elsewhere, it might seem a bit lacklustre looking at it from the outside.
I'd imagine that the Toronto Maple Leafs aren't done. If you think back to the summer and all the different names that have been moved, they've probably been in on or had conversations about 60-75% of those players.
So I think it's been, in some ways, for Brad Treliving, a little bit of a disappointing summer because he wants to be so active and aggressive, but yet hasn't necessarily gotten anything big done.
The biggest deal is the Marner for Roy exchange, but since being linked to everyone under the sun from
Brad Marchand to
Erik Karlsson to
Dougie Hamilton nothing has materialized and if those deals are going to happen; other trades do as well.
Treliving's reported frustrations hint at unfinished business before training camp begins
Calle Jarnkrok and
David Kampf need to be traded not only to open up the roster space for some lingering players, but to give them enough cap space to facilitate a trade to bring in that top-six piece.
There's a lot of time left to make a splash, so Brad Treliving can gauge his options, but the sooner he acts, the sooner it's easier to figure out the plan going forward.
He's going to need to also figure out what to do with guys like
Easton Cowan, who are also fighting for a spot. Does he warrant a nine-game audition, and if so where does he fit? What of Nick Robertson and
his arbitration case?Trading his excess pieces is a good start, but with the word that no one is interested, that's going to be easier said than done. No one wants a buyout but when push comes to shove; you need to act somehow.
So time is ticking for Brad Treliving, and while his team can certainly hang in the Atlantic, having some more help is always great.
