Brad Treliving appeared on the Real Kyper and Bourne Podcast to talk about the trade deadline and his choice of words pointed to his time potentially over in Toronto as the team needs to make some serious evaluations starting at the top.

Suffice to say, the trade deadline for Toronto was not as fruitful as one might have hoped. While they still managed to get some decent assets for guys like Bobby McMann and Scott Laughton, the value was a lot less than anticipated meanwhile some guys like Oliver Ekman-Larsson who were sat for trade reasons -- are still around.
The 'mastermind' behind Friday's deadline was GM Brad Treliving, who made an appearance on the Real Kyper and Bourne Show to talk about the moves that were made and admitted that perhaps things didn't go exactly to plan.

Brad Treliving's comments show zero optimism heading into end of season stretch

Taking full accountability for the team's misfortunes this season, Treliving sounded less like a GM who had command of his team, but one that realizes his time could be coming to an end soon:
As far as myself, listen, those decisions will be made by others. I...I want to correct the things...uh...as I've said.

We will have a plan... It's been a disappointing season, and it starts with myself. I take full responsibility.

We need to get better in a lot of areas but right now I am not concerned with being able to fix all that.
Listening to the clip, the tone and shakiness and pure uncertainty in Treliving's voice tells you all you need to know. He's lost, and as much as he says there's a plan in place -- until we see one it's going to be all bark, no bite.

Treliving sold at a discount because desperate times call for desperate measures

There's a good reason he's lacking confidence right now too. All he has to do is take a look at what others actually acquired and know that not only did he not do enough but barely made a dent in a retooling process.
His insistence on waiting for perfect deals led to Toronto rushing things last minute, dropping value and essentially saying 'take these guys for half off!'
This is March, not Boxing Day, Brad.
But hilariously, or rather ironically Toronto has to come back to Scotiabank Arena and face off against Tampa Bay -- a team that Molly-whopped them a week ago.
Don't expect Maple Leafs Square to be bumping and excited to watch, because fans know the miserable product on the ice is due to a lack of proper investment in the club and it wouldn't be surprising to see a few anti-Treliving signs in the crowd.
They've lost six in a row, just dumped off one of their best forwards and scoring assets, and not one but TWO of their top penalty killers. For all the talk about helping Auston Matthews get his offensive game back, now you're going to take him and have him pull double duty yet again?
If the game plan is going to be revealed, then it has to start with building a proper lineup. But perhaps the plan going forward doesn't involve Treliving and all and from the looks of it -- it probably shouldn't.
