Toronto Maple Leafs GM Brad Treliving could be given a great chance to add some forward depth considering the San Jose Sharks might be looking to dump a few names.

Although the Toronto Maple Leafs' season is set to kick off on Wednesday night, that doesn't mean that they aren't still looking towards the future and ways to improve their team.
The loss of Mitch Marner hurts, and while they did well to bring in some new faces, they are still lacking that true game changer up front.

Frank Seravalli's Sharks Trade Report Could Help Toronto Bolster Their Top Six

However according to a new report from the Daily Faceoff's Frank Seravalli, they may have a potential trade partner that is all too familiar:
The San Jose Sharks; They've acquired a lot of dead cap space, I think the Sharks anticipate on trading away a few roster players.

It's not too shocking to see the Sharks wanting to get away from some of their players after acquiring enough dead cap to raise themselves from the basement of the cap floor to a more respectable situation.
That means there are some players who may not fit into the equation who could be on the move, and that could be quite impactful for the Toronto Maple Leafs.
Veterans like Tyler Toffoli and Alex Wennberg could be solid options for Toronto's top-six, meanwhile a player like Jeff Skinner won't be too expensive, can offer solid offensive potential and give him a chance again in the playoffs where he shone.
Right now, the Sharks are in a position where they want to play their younger players and considering they brought both Sam Dickinson and Michael Misa up already; there's a clear onus to start the youth.

Why a Reunion Between Treliving and Grier Makes Perfect Trade Sense

So that plays perfectly into the Maple Leafs' hands as they can bring in a reliable player who can solidify their top six without breaking the bank, and might be able to rid their hands of Nick Robertson; who the Sharks had previous interest in.
A player like Toffoli in the top-six would give Toronto a lot of flexibility and a proven winner, which is the type of person needed to push them over the top. Not a flashy move, but a smart one.
It's not like the two are strangers, with Toronto trading both Timothy Liljegren and Ryan Reaves in separate deals to bring in Matt Benning and Henry Thrun.
There's still a lot of time left between now and the trade deadline, but don't be surprised if Brad Treliving calls up his old pal Mike Grier and tries to get another deal done with the Sharks.
