The young forward was sent down to the American Hockey League prior to the trade deadline as a measure to give the team a little extra cap space and roster flexibility. The move was intended to be temporary, which was backed up by Treliving's comments today.
That being said, the organization has yet to call Robertson back up to the NHL. It is not exactly clear when they intend to do so, but their next game is today as they face the Montreal Canadiens.
The young forward has done pretty much as well as can be expected of him this year. He has 8 goals and 19 points with the team in 41 games this year, despite getting just over 11 minutes of ice time per game. For a team that historically has struggled to get consistent depth scoring, those numbers are hard to ignore.
That being said, it seems that Sheldon Keefe and the organization as a whole is not that sold on him. The former 2nd round pick is still just 22 years old so there is more time for him to get better, but if his performance this season has not been enough to earn a regular role with the team, it is hard to see him succeeding here long-term.
