Maple Leafs GM took the time to speak with Sportsnet recently, and delved into his thoughts on Toronto's roster ahead of the 2025-26 season and if the team is ready.

Time is ticking for the Toronto Maple Leafs if they want to make a move before the season opens up, with a few holes to fill in terms of their offense. They have been talking to potential names in the hopes of finalizing a last-minute deal, but it seems we have to deal with the roster that has been built.

But the team has done well to change their identity as best they can, and things are certainly going to look at lot different when the team takes the ice on October 8th.

What Treliving Said About the Maple Leafs Roster Ahead of 2025-26

If you had to ask GM Brad Treliving, he's pretty confident in his lineup and while he admitted that the search for stars never stops; he knows there isn't a lot of time to work with:

We're always looking. I don't think you ever stop. Whether it happens or not, we'll see. We've got a lot of bodies right now, so we'll see.

More than likely, unless something changes, we'll go with what we've got and see where it all sorts itself out.

We're excited about the group we've got, but we'll see what it looks like once we get going and get everybody up to speed and get the new players acclimated to the team, the market, their teammates, and really where they fit.

Fans can't expect the team to be that offensive force that blows teams out anymore, we saw the start of that last season. It's going to take some time for people to get comfortable, so patience is key.

How a Potential Roster Shakeup Could Impact the Leafs This Season

Depending on how the team is sitting come the Olympic break, that's when the real decisions are going to have to be made.

If Nick Robertson ends up becoming a stud, do they sell on his hype or hope he figures it out in the postseason? What of Morgan Rielly if he's regressing? Will anyone buy David Kampf?

Bringing in a big name such as Erik Karlsson, Dougie Hamilton, Jared McCann, or Nazem Kadri would instantly improve Toronto's playoff chances, but at the cost of either their future, a current star or both.

If the team is gelling though, do they really want to risk breaking up the brand new chemistry they've made just for the sake of adding a hopeful producer?

That's going to alienate the players who might feel slighted that they aren't doing enough regardless of success especially if you're trying to get everyone to buy-in.

While it would be great for the club to add that final piece of the puzzle, the potential cost and risk of jeopardizing your clubs mentality and confidence could be too much.

If Treliving is confident, we should give him the benefit of the doubt. That is, until we have no reason to.
