Benoit Does the Unthinkable in the Penalty Box vs. Utah, Stunning Leafs Fans
Simon Benoit stunned everyone with his scrap against Utah last night, and besides throwing the wildest punch this season, he had to perform some quick repairs too.
Backed by a solid effort from the team's bottom line, it was exactly what the team needed.
That wasn't the biggest story to come out of the game however.
There was a heated scrap between Simon Benoit and
Michael Kesselring that started with absolute fireworks when Benoit channeled his inner Georges St-Pierre and tried to land a Superman Punch on Kesselring as the scrap began.
Benoit ended up the victor and stood tall over Kesselring at the end of things. However, it was what Benoit did after that's still leaving some fans grimacing.
Benoit calmly sat in the penalty box and reset his dislocated thumb. The most mind blowing part is the stoic nature that Benoit fixed his damaged appendage, as if it was just a regular part of his game.
Benoit's Brutal Display Caps Off Great Game For Leafs
It was a true display of the brutality of hockey at times, and it's hard to imagine a lot of other athletes being able to withstand the pain of not only a misplaced thumb, but to fix it on the fly and continue the game.
It was a solid game for
Benoit besides the fight as well, as the defenseman scored a goal as well, giving him his first of the season as well as adding three blocks and four hits.
It pushes his season total to five points (1G, 4A) and if he can find the scoresheet three more times somehow this year, would give him a new career-high with four goals; not bad for a third line defensively minded player.
It was a sight to behold on Monday as Simon Benoit put on a display of toughness, grit, and perseverance. He did it all against Utah, and if you weren't a fan of him before, this should earn him some well deserved brownie points.
