Bad News for the Maple leafs Regarding William Nylander
Dismantling the Core Four?
Trade rumors involving members of the Core Four have been flowing since the Leafs got eliminated in the second round of the playoffs.
Both Auston Matthews and William Nylander are going to be free agents next summer with a no-trade clause kicking in on July 1st.
Treliving will have to work his magic to keep them in Toronto.
Pierre LeBrun, the renowned insider, has shared a major development concerning Nylander's situation.
Bad News for Toronto Concerning Nylander
LeBrun reported that Treliving met with Lewis Gross, Nylander's agent, earlier this week in Nashville, but nothing concrete came out of these discussions.
He also dropped this bombshell:
"That's the wild card one. Everyone keeps insisting that the Core 4 will be back, but I'll tell you now - William Nylander will not be back if this contract negotiation doesn't go smoothly. That's just the reality of it. That's the player that could move if there isn't an extension that makes sense for both sides."
It seems clear that Nylander will ask for a lot of money and the Leafs aren't in a financial position to take him at any price.
More serious negotiations should happen soon and according to LeBrun, it they aren't smooth, Nylander might change teams.
