Bad News for the Maple Leafs on Ryan O'Reilly Trade, per Elliotte Friedman

The Toronto Maple Leafs once acquired former Conn Smythe Trophy-winning forward Ryan O'Reilly from the St. Louis Blues at the 2023 Deadline, giving them valuable championship experience.

However, he's reportedly not interested in a 2nd go-around with them despite playing for the Nashville Predators, who have zero chance at making the postseason this year.

Per NHL analyst Elliotte Friedman, the Maple Leafs expressed interest in a reunion with O'Reilly but were rebuffed.

O'Reilly is in his 2nd year with the Nashville Predators and has 39 points (16G, 23A) for a club that entered the year with legitimate Stanley Cup aspirations but have instead been among the worst clubs in the Western Conference.

The Trade Deadline is Friday afternoon, and all deals must be completed by 3:00PM (Eastern Standard Time).

He was part of the club that became the first Leafs team to advance past the opening round of the Stanley Cup Playoffs since 2004, beating the Tampa Bay Lightning in six games before being eliminated by the Florida Panthers in the next round.

Since then, he's been with the Nashville Predators, signing a 4-year contract with them in the summer of 2023.

He's also played for the Colorado Avalanche and Buffalo Sabres in his NHL career. He helped the Blues win the first Stanley Cup in franchise history and won the Conn Smythe Trophy as the Most Valuable Player in the 2019 Stanley Cup Playoffs.

He won the Stanley Cup with current Maple Leafs head coach Craig Berube and would have been a solid third line option for him although it seems his tenure in 2022 was enough for him to say no thanks to a repeat.

Brad Treliving is running out of time to make a deal happen for the Maple Leafs and if he doesn't pick up a good enough player, don't expect fans to let him off the hook anytime soon.
