Toronto Maple Leafs' star Auston Matthews broke his silence after he failed to reach the 70-goal mark last night against the Tampa Bay Lightning.

Last night, Matthews failed to score a goal and the 2023-24 season will be remembered as the year the Leafs' star scored 69 goals.

It was definitely a tough moment for the player and the fans. Everyone rooted for him to score. The last time an NHL player scored 70 goals was in 1992-93, and it was Alexander Mogilny; he scored 76 with the Sabres.

After the tough 6-4 loss, Matthews opened up about his failure. He was surprisingly positive about it and what's to come for him and his team.

"You know, ah, I wanted it for sure, but it just wasn't meant to be."

Eager to turn the page & focus on playoffs

"The most important thing is the team & the team success & making sure I'm pulling my weight""

Indeed, for the Leafs to be successful in the playoffs, Matthews will need to pull his weight.

There's no doubt that Sheldon Keefe's gesture towards Matthews at the end of the game helped the player see things with a positive attitude:
