Toronto Maple Leafs goaltender Anthony Stolarz is tired of players trying to run him, and absolutely went ballistic after being crashed into again versus Seattle.
Only two days removed from being gobsmacked at the fact that the NHL doesn't prioritize goaltender safety as much as they should, Anthony Stolarz was at the forefront of the highlight reel again.
It wasn't a maskless save or a gloveless freeze of the puck this time. No, it was something much more aggressive from the normally level-headed goaltender.
Anthony Stolarz Snaps On Seattle; Fights Former Maple Leaf
After he was charged by Seattle's Mason Marchment, Stolarz was having none of it and decided to unleash a flurry of blocker shots at the former Maple Leafs forward, clearly sick of being the focus of his opponent's aggression:
You can see the exact moment Stolarz basically said "Screw this" and decided to take matters into his own hands, and as goaltenders are wont to do; he fought back as much as he could.
It looked like Stolarz also wanted as much room as possible to inflict punishment as he decided to push the net about two feet away from him before letting Marchment eat some more shots.
This comes off the heels of Stolarz having his safety at risk after the referees didn't blow down a play after he lost his mask; something both he and opposing goaltender Igor Shesterkin agreed upon.
Anthony Stolarz Tired Of Injury Risks
But it's also harkening back to last season where Stolarz suffered a concussion thanks to a Sam Bennett elbow that knocked him out of the playoffs.
He knows how important and imperative it is to keep his head safe, and getting run into is the last thing he needs; especially with knee concerns as well so him being ticked off is not only valid, it's the right response.
One perplexing thing that some fans may take some umbrage with is the fact that defenseman Brandon Carlo was just standing around and waited until his goalie got into the fracas; he should have been on Marchment like tape on a stick.
Fans were not too pleased with Carlo's lack of an immediate response either:
The general sentiment is that the Toronto defense is, well, for lack of a nicer term; soft. They have enough rough 'n' tumble players to get aggressive and they need to channel their inner Craig Berube a bit and show some fire.
Unfortunately his aggression didn't pay off, as the Maple Leafs fell 4-3 in OT against the Kraken.
Luckily, the Toronto Maple Leafs goaltender was absolutely okay and decided to give the Kraken a piece of his mind, and his right hand.
Forget about releasing the Kraken; it seems they unleashed Anthony Stolarz instead.
