According to NHL insider Frank Seravalli, Kiefer Sherwood's price may have dropped a little bit compared to previous reports about what he could bring back via trade.

The Vancouver Canucks have been fairly busy this season already, dealing away superstar blueliner Quinn Hughes to the Minnesota Wild for a massive haul that gave them a ton of youth and assist GM Patrik Allvin in accelerating his rebuild.
However, he isn't the only veteran who could be on the move, as the Canucks hold several players that contenders would love to get their hands on; so long as the price is right.
The name being tossed around the most in trade rumors is Keifer Sherwood, a player who is known for scoring goals and hitting everything that moves. He's really started to break out this season and leads the Canucks in goals (16) and hits (184) while being one of the lone bright spots of their miserable 2025-26 season.

Kiefer Sherwood could be a little more affordable now

Earlier reports showed that because of his unique skillset, it could drive his price up into potentially first-round pick territory, and while that's certainly a hefty cost; if he can help a team it's well worth it.
But a new report from Frank Seravalli seems to contradict that previous rumor as the insider believes the price has dropped a little bit, but it doesn't mean that it's not going to be expensive.
Seravalli appeared on Canucks Central on Dec. 29 and explained that Sherwood may likely go for a second-round pick plus a sweetener on the side:
It's probably right in that range of a 2nd round pick plus I think at this moment in time.

That's good news for teams like the Toronto Maple Leafs, who may be willing to part with one of their decent picks and perhaps a player like Matias Maccelli who would add the youth and offensive potential Allvin wants.
Sherwood is an unrestricted free agent at the end of the season, and he could end up commanding $5-million or more per season on his next deal; so if Toronto wants to bring him in then they'll have to decide whether to commit a ton of money to a guy who just started putting it together.
But there's no doubt that he would fit seamlessly in the Maple Leafs system, as he's ultra-physical and hard-working, loves to crash the net, and has some pretty solid hands considering his track record.
The only issue is that he might end up costing Toronto quite a bit just to have him for half the season before figuring out if he's worth committing to.
Though if he manages to spark the Maple Leafs to success, then money doesn't matter in the end; only success.
