A Maple Leafs trade proposal floating around has certainly caused a bit of a stir as it could set the course for a deal that changes the team in a big way.

There's been a bunch of talk recently about the Maple Leafs and who they should or should not keep as the team looks to retool after a very disappointing season.
Names have ranged from Bobby McMann and Scott Laughton to Oliver Ekman-Larsson and even Joseph Woll, and it seems like unless you're a superstar then you could be on the chopping block.

Blockbuster trade sees Dallas acquire Easton Cowan; trade Jason Robertson

However that might not be a bad thing considering a new trade proposal floating around not only could bring back quite the haul -- but also finally exorcise some old demons:
Responding to SDPN's Jesse Blake's post regarding trade proposals for Toronto, one fan noted that the team should make a play to bring in Jason Robertson as well as Tyler Seguin in exchange for quite the package; highlighted by Easton Cowan.
Not only that, but they suggest that Toronto can then have the money to add Dougie Hamilton, and in somehow, someway, come out with both pieces they dealt away years ago in the Phil Kessel trade.
While it looks genuinely crazy at first glance, with some money management and creativity -- the team can get it done.

Breaking down the Robertson/Cowan trade idea

In breaking it down, Toronto's three players make a shade over $5-million, and if you couple in Seguin (who is on LTIR and is still unknown for this year) that jumps things up to nearly $15-million in space; not counting Chris Tanev either.
Toronto taking the enormous amount of money only works if Seguin stays away for the rest of the year, but with the team having some cap in the summer and working on moving out other deals potentially -- he could fit.
That LTIR money can be used to take on Hamilton's contract sans retention, and then would give them a piece to either extend for the next couple years, or trade for a much younger piece at the draft.
Dallas has been linked to Artemi Panarin in the last little bit, and needs as much money as possible to get him on the squad. They're already at an impasse with Robertson, and he's going to get paid this summer regardless of where he plays and Panarin needs an extension; where does he fit?
One interesting factor to note that may play in Toronto's favor is the fact that Robertson's younger brother Nick is a member of the Maple Leafs and is actually having a great year; he could be motivated to play alongside him and their close bond could unlock some serious offense.
Yes it hurts that Toronto loses out on Cowan, however he's regressed a little bit from his hot start and bringing in a superstar like Robertson doesn't come around too often.
On the bright side too, at least the team wouldn't need to deal with him consistently like they do Fraser Minten, who has been incredible in his rookie year with Boston.
Losing McMann seems more like an inevitability at this point, and Carlo hasn't worked out as well as the team had hoped; so it's more about taking on the amount of money Dallas needs to clear.
In this wacky world of trade proposals, it seems like anyone and everything is on the table. This latest one has a lot of moving parts and seems complicated at first glance.
But for Brad Treliving, it could be his one chance to make a splash before the well runs dry for a final time.
