One trade floating around social media is gaining some intrigue as one Maple Leafs fans believes they have the perfect package to bring in Dougie Hamilton.

There's been a lot of talk over the last week about Dougie Hamilton and what the future holds for the veteran after reports came out saying the team was essentially benching him in the hopes he'll accelerate a trade.
It's an unfortunate twist in a story that has seemingly turned on its head recently, and there's certainly going to be a lot of interest from contenders including the Toronto Maple Leafs.
Attached at the hip, it almost feels like Toronto is going to be the team to land him although that's much easier said than done.

Toronto fan's trade proposal shows reality of a Dougie Hamilton deal

It's going to cost a lot of assets and money but if the Devils are desperate to dump him off; it could come a little cheaper.
That's why one fan proposal floating around social media has become so intriguing:
Just send Danford, Jarnkrok, Myers, pick for Dougie Hamilton retained and get it over with.
While that in and of itself would be a blockbuster deal, putting Danford in the mix is going to ruffle some feathers given the Maple Leafs' track record at trading prospects for veteran help.
But if New Jersey would be willing to take him as a centrepiece, then it would make life a lot easier for the Maple Leafs cost wise; Danford allows them to send Calle Jarnkrok and Philippe Myers the other way.
That's $3-million saved, plus Chris Tanev's LTIR help which gives Toronto another roughly $3-million to work with.

Toronto can save money on Dougie Hamilton -- if New Jersey is desperate enough

If Toronto sends a decent enough pick, then they should also be able to get some retention on Hamilton's deal and right now anything helps. It won't be 50% but even something at 30% would be a massive benefit.
That would put his hit at $6-million roughly, which the new money allows and the team can keep all their regular defenders too.
Hamilton, 32, has struggled a bit offensively this season with only 10 points in 40 games (5 goals, 5 assists) but has great career numbers. In 875 games he has 511 points (156 goals, 355 assists) while adding a plus-69 rating in 20:39 TOI.
Toronto doesn't have to move their lineup around too much, they get a chance to add a premier defender and they do it without losing Easton Cowan or a first-round pick.
The loss of Ben Danford is going to hurt if he goes the other way, but as much as Hamilton isn't guaranteed to help Toronto, Danford isn't guaranteed to succeed and the Maple Leafs could come out like gangbusters in the end.
