This Maple Leafs player might find himself staying put with the team just in time for the playoffs.

Simmonds Earns a Spot

Wayne Simmonds, who was recently called up from the minors by the Toronto Maple Leafs, is certainly making a case to stay in the lineup for the playoffs.

Highly respected by fans and his teammates, Simmonds did what he does best in what could potentially be his last season before retirement: he dropped the gloves.

It's clear that Toronto could use a player like him in the playoffs, where things tend to get a little rough.

Simmonds was placed on waivers on February 14 and has played only 18 games with the Leafs this year.

The 34 year old was drafted by the Los Angeles Kings in 2007. He played 3 seasons with the Kings before being traded, along with Brayden Schenn and a 2012 2nd round pick, to the Philadelphia Flyers in exchange for Rob Bordson and Mike Richards.

Simmonds remained a key part of the Flyers lineup for 7 seasons before being traded to the Nashville Predators in 2019 in exchange for Ryan Hartman and a conditional 2020 4th round pick. Simmonds would find himself playing his last few seasons with the New Jersey Devils and Buffalo Sabres before signing with the Leafs.
