It is not secret that the Maple Leafs have been struggling this year. While the team is still well within the playoff picture, they have not had the same level of regular season success they were able to achieve in recent years under Kyle Dubas. Now new general manager Brad Treliving seems poised to make a move to bolster his team.

Treliving Reveals Trade Targets In Baseball Joke

As Major League Baseball enters the busiest part of the offseason with the winter meetings, Maple Leafs general manager was asked a question about Shohei Ohtani in jest. His response was equally funny, but also quite revealing as to how he feels about his current team. The comment left fans wondering if these are the positions Treliving is actively trying to upgrade.

Brad Treliving on @OverDrive1050 when asked about Ohtani news:

"For that amount of dough, I wonder if he could play right D, or 3rd line center for us. Maybe take some draws too."

Did Brad just let us know what he is targeting???

It has been believed for some time that the Leafs have been trying to make a trade on the backend. They were involved in the Nikita Zadorov trade rumors and now they have been linked to Sharks defenseman Mario Ferraro.

Leafs Going After Sharks Defenseman In Trade Talks

According to TFP, Leafs are believed to have interest in Mario Ferraro

#LeafsForever

Ferraro, a native of Toronto, has two years left after this one at a 3.25 million dollar cap hit. He is reportedly getting interest from multiple teams around the league so the Leafs may have more competition if they target him as well.

However, the team's options may be limited as Flames owner Murray Edwards is holding a grudge against Treliving for leaving Calgary, making a trade for Chris Tanev more difficult. We already have seen the flames deal Zadorov to the Canucks for what was supposed to be a premium, but a 3rd and 5th round pick does not really seem like the team paid a tax for being within the same division.

The next move for Treliving will likely be to acquire a defenseman, but we will just have to wait and see when that move finally comes.
