Insider Pierre Lebrun let the world know some major news regarding William Nylander and his upcoming contract with the Toronto Maple Leafs.
Lebrun Shares Major News Regarding William Nylander
William Nylander has been arguably the Toronto Maple Leafs' best player thus far. Through 15 games, Nylander has scored a point in every single game and has 22 total points. So far we have not heard much on the front of his contract negotiations but insider Pierre Lebrun revealed that this is likely a good thing.
"The thing about it is that it's been quiet by design. Both sides made a pact before the season started. They did not want any leaks whatsoever. Both sides want to be tight-lipped and that's exactly the way it's played out so far. And the reality is, if this thing had gone off the rails in terms of contract talks, you probably would be hearing more because you'd get some message sending from one side or the other." - Pierre Lebrun
While things remain quiet we are able to assume that the talks are progressing. Fans have speculated on there being a potential contract announcement while the Leafs are in Sweden for the NHL's global series. However, Lebrun has hinted at this not being the case.
"The reality is, the dialogue is ongoing. My understanding is both sides keep going back and forth. They hope to get something done between now and July 1st, but it's a difficult contract to get done. William Nylander has been spectacular, his salary leverage keeps going up, but the Leafs, also, keep dealing with the salary cap."- Pierre Lebrun
Hopefully, for the Leafs, they will be able to reach an agreement with Nylander and continue to keep the core four together for the foreseeable future.
