The NHL playoffs are often a time when previously healthy friendships among players suddenly mean nothing, and everyone who's not wearing your jersey is an enemy. That is certainly the case for Toronto's Ryan O'Reilly, who couldn't be phased by the sight of his good friend and former teammate.
O'Reilly Brushes off Maroon
The Leafs evened the score for their intense series against the Lightning last night. In a night filled with plenty of action and an intense rivalry being born, this moment flew under most people's radars.
Pat Maroon decided to probe O'Reilly's glove with his stick. O'Reilly, who is very picky about his gloves, must've been furious!
It appears as though O'Reilly has severed his relationship with Maroon for the duration of the playoffs, and the two are no longer friends while on the ice.
If you remember back to 2019, Maroon and O'Reilly were teammates on the St. Louis Blues team that won the Stanley Cup. The two have been great friends since that miracle cup run, and keep in regular contact with one another.
