Much of the talk surrounding the Toronto Maple Leafs over the past few days has been around general manager Kyle Dubas and his (lack of a) contract extension. The young GM has assembled what many considered to be the best team in the NHL on paper, yet the Leafs failed yet again to find any meaningful playoff success. One has to wonder, does Dubas even want to return at this point?

Dubas Keeping MLSE Waiting for an Answer

Dubas seems to be relatively liked by the fans of Toronto, but with his latest antics, he may have made some enemies in the MLSE group. NHL insider Elliotte Friedman has reported that Dubas put contract talks on hold with the MLSE group, despite an offer being on the table.

«I think they have a long term extension on the table for him [Kyle Dubas] and they thought it was going to get done this week and obviously Dubas put a hold on that, and I just think the biggest question we have right now is how long is MLSE going to wait?» - Elliote Friedman

If this is in fact true, it would be a huge cause for concern among Leafs fans. Dubas has already stated that he would return to Toronto or take time off, so for him to pause contract talks is concerning to say the least.

No More Interest From Dubas?

It is possible that Dubas has become bored with the Maple Leafs, and would like a new challenge elsewhere. In that case, there's not much that the MLSE group can do other than throw more money at him.
